Adani Foundation Sets Up Skill Development Centre To Train 200+ Women Belonging To Fisherfolk Community In Stitching & Embroidery

Move Aimed To Empower Women From 4 Panchayats Become Employed & Financially Secure

 

Lighthouse, July 11, 2024: The Adani Kattupalli Port, through the Adani Foundation, has inaugurated a Skill Development Centre in Thirumalai Nagar in Lighthouse panchayat in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which will provide training in stitching and embroidery to 240 women, all belonging to the fisherfolk community. The move is aimed at empowering them economically and help them become gainfully employed or begin their own ventures for a better livelihood.

 

The centre was inaugurated by Mr Waghe Sanket Balwant (IAS), sub-collector, Ponneri, and Capt. Madhanmohan, COO of Adani Kattupalli and Ennore Ports, in the presence of community leaders, panchayat heads, councillors, ward members, and members of the fisherfolk community. It will cater to women belonging to four fishermen panchayats, namely Lighthouse, Thangalperumbulam, Kottaikuppam and Pulicat. It will train 240 women every year in the Self-Employed Tailor (SET) course.

  

The Foundation has also been running another Skill Development Centre in Kattur village, which has trained 750 youths so far across multiple sectors since its inception in the year 2020.

  

Meanwhile, the Adani Kattupalli Port also plans to provide trainings to youth in sectors such as Auto, Port Operations, and Finance & Accounting in the coming future.

  

The Adani Skill Development Centre (ASDC), through its Saksham initiative, offers an array of courses across multiple domains to train youths to help them become gainfully employed as per industrial requirements or begin their own ventures. In the recent years, impetus has been on introducing technology-based courses with state-of-the-art teaching infrastructure, both offline and online. Some popular courses are welding through augmented reality-(AR) based simulator, crane operator training with physical simulators, virtual courses in the Metaverse, and foundational courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
